"All the works on (Le Minh Tam's) thoughtfully conceived program were enhanced by scores by Mr. Silva, who combined electronic sounds with music for various string and wind instruments, played by him. What one heard always strengthened the impact of what one saw." - Jack Anderson, New York Times
About Tony Silva Tony Silva was born in New York City in 1962. The son of a Chilean father and a mother of Bulgarian decent, Tony was influenced by ethnic music from an early age. His father, who played jazz piano, bought him a guitar at age 11. He taught himself to play and also learned mandolin, bass, and flute. Now he plays a wide variety of instruments which he uses in his compositions. Silva began composing and producing on an analog 4 track in 1982. He created his first piece of music for a dance performance in 1988, and received his first commission in 1990. He earned a BFA in 1994 from the University of Massachusetts where he studied music theory and history. He was also a student of the award winning composer, Charles L. Bestor. He has been an adjunct faculty member of the Five College Dance consortium in Western Massachusetts since 2003, where he accompanies dance classes and teaches Pro Tools. Like a chameleon, Silva can mold himself into almost any musical environment. He specializes in combining acoustic and electronic timbers to create rich and lush sonic landscapes that are full of life.

" Wanted you to know that Tony Silva was fantastic. His 2+ hours 'ambient sound' performance using a multitude of instruments and synthesized sounds was perfect for the exhibition environment of the University Gallery. I'd recommend him highly. He is an accomplished performer, who showed a sensitivity to the character of the performance venue. So thanks for sending him our way." - Craig Allaben, University Gallery Director

" Allowing each dancer to fully engage in the moods of the material, Tam is concerned at the same time with the design of space and the relationships of body to body. Tony Silva's score answered the movement vocabulary's oddness and depth." - Chris Dohse, The Dance Insider, Flash Review, 8-31-2000: "Unforgettable Journeys" Le Minh Tam's "Familiar Stories"
