Secrets of Traditional
Venetian Mask Making

Come learn the art of traditional Venetian carnival mask making.  Create a Commedia dell'arte classic or star studded, feathered parade mask.

In this 4 day process we will make casts of our faces to create molds, which we will use as templates to make paper mache shells. We will finish the masks with paint, cloth, trim, feathers and jewels.  Your completed mask will fit your face perfectly.

For ages 12 and up.

In July and August, Tony Silva will be assisting his father Pedro Silva with the
2008 Restoration of the Beanches around Grant's Tomb, NYC.

This project has been organized and funded by CITYarts

CITYarts', students, and groups of volunteers will work with artist Pedro Silva and his son Tony Silva to restore the Benches around Grant's Tomb. Over months of July, August 2008, teams will replace broken tiles and fit new tiles with cement. CITYarts will also create a brochure that will tell the story of how Pedro Silva, with a small team of artists and over a thousand volunteers built the benches in the summers of 1972, 73, & 74. This brochure will be available to any visitor.
